CMB commenced work on the £1.7 Million Mechanical contract for the Queen Mary University of London Information Teaching Laboratory in London in August 2024, and our Bristol division have since made good progress in the 7 months they have spent on site.

The existing building is undergoing a substantial extension and refurbishment as part of the university’s growth, as they continue to invest considerably into state-of-the-art facilities to enhance their computer science education offerings.

As well as two entire new floors to the current building, on completion they will benefit from a new circulation core, a new outer façade for enhanced sustainability purposes and 160 new student workspaces for the growing demand in student numbers.

Alongside structural changes, we are replacing all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems with modern, sustainable solutions to improve energy and water efficiency. This aligns with Queen Mary’s 2030 strategy, focusing on infrastructure investments that prioritise both functionality and sustainability.

We have also installed a new VRF system across the 5 floors for heating and cooling. There are 10no heat recovery units to feed the new ventilation system, as well as a new BMS system being installed that will be integrated into the QMUL site wide network for seamless connectivity for the client.

We are pleased to be working on this development for one of the leading research-focused higher education institutions in the UK and look forward to providing more updates as the site progresses.
