Cardiff Commitment recently hosted an Exploring Engineering Event (in partnership with Cardiff Youth Service) where companies like ourselves attended to speak to young people interested in a career in engineering.
We were able to meet aspiring engineers to help them learn more about engineering and assist them in participating with a variety of hands-on activities to aid kick-starting their own career in engineering.
We set up a simple low-risk task to allow them to experience bending pipework and for those interested, we were there to explain the application process and provided further details to send us their CV’s so they could be considered for CMB’s next apprenticeship intake.
Our “Train and Retain" apprenticeship programme is something that we have always valued at CMB and many incredible employees have come through this programme who have stuck with us for many years, with several even becoming directors. The culture at CMB has always been to develop and promote from within with progressive career paths built into our training programmes.
CMB Project Director, Richard Smithen, who represented CMB at the event, said:
‘It was a great opportunity to present ourselves to the future custodians of the engineering world… There was an encouraging amount of interest at the event and we look forward to next generation of apprentices joining the industry.”
