PROFILE

The brand-new Ocean Park Arena located on Ocean Way, Cardiff is officially open and operational for local sports clubs to use. The former national tennis centre facility has been transformed into a modern sports hub providing the platform to develop women’s and youth football in the centre of Cardiff.

The site will primarily be used by Cardiff City FC Foundation, Cardiff City FC Academy, Cardiff City FC Women, CVSFA and the FAW however will also be open to the public subject to availability. The facility will include a full-sized youth 90x50m 3G pitch and a larger 100x64m 3G pitch right next to it, both of which are fully equipped with floodlights for evening and winter use (pictured below).

CMB first got involved in this project in an effort to enhance our corporate social responsibility activities and provide resources and facilities for local people and clubs. The purpose of the new development is to create a hub for women’s football in Cardiff to support and enable those wishing to pursue the sport.

Cardiff City House of Sport Executive Director, Joanna Borley Parker, commented: “We are thrilled to launch another site to our House of Sport group, further futureproofing sporting activities in our Capital City. We are proud to be working with the FAW Trust to create a women and girl’s hub – the first of its kind in Wales – to grow opportunities within the women’s game and to create an inclusive environment in which stronger, more sustainable and robust women’s clubs with full pathways will emerge as a result of this new facility.”

In a further attempt to promote inclusivity and varied facilities, the expansion will also host ample parking with 173 car parking spaces, including 12 disabled spaces and 2 coach bays. There are an additional 22 cycle spaces to encourage alternative healthier modes of transport to the pitches also.

CMB Group Managing Director, Steve Borley, added: “The new Ocean Park Arena is yet another step forward in providing increased sports facilities across the city for the next generation of Welsh athletes. Our aim was to create a sustainable multi-purpose facility for local people to spend their spare time proactively and have a central hub for exercise and sports development and we have successfully achieved that.

We now look forward to seeing this complex become a part of the community for generations to come and help further promote sports and athleticism within Cardiff.”

We would like to thank all those who contributed towards the development of this sports facility including CMB site supervisor Jimmy Borley, Project Director Bertie Borley, the Cardiff City House of Sport team and South Wales Sport Grounds, all of which were instrumental in this project.

With the facilities now being rented by teams across Cardiff (including Cardiff City Football Academy pictured below), it is great to finally see the grounds in operation. For booking enquiries and more information, please contact Cardiff City House of Sport or visit their website.
