Project Update - Fairwater Community Campus

We’re pleased to bring you the latest update on Riverbank and Woodlands schools – the next phase of the Fairwater Community Campus project, where we are delivering two Additional Learning Needs schools for the Western Learning Federation on behalf of Cardiff Council.

Following the successful handover of Cantonian High School in December, progress across both schools continues at a positive pace. Internally, work is advancing well, with finishes and final building services commissioning well underway. Meanwhile externally, the wet weather hasn’t stopped us, with progress continuing on paving works as well as the installation of external canopies across classroom areas. Over the coming weeks, we will also begin to see the introduction of the new external play and learning spaces.

The removal of the temporary Cantonian High School (a process heavily dependent on wind and weather conditions) is also nearing completion and remains on programme. This will allow work to commence on the grass football pitch, running track, and the southern section of the site. Construction of our final building, the Enterprise Hub, is also continuing in line with the programme.

Alongside the main campus development, our social value contributions on this project continue to be at the forefront of everything we do. One of our latest donations to the development is the community horse box conversion project, which will provide Western Learning Federation pupils with the opportunity to serve coffee and refreshments to the local community. Once complete, this will give ALN students the opportunity to develop their personal, social and employability skills.

As we enter the final 6 months of construction on what will be Wales’s largest educational facility, this landmark project continues to be a pleasure to be a part of. A special mention goes to all our staff and supply chain working with us who continue to deliver on expectations and deadlines, without ever compromising on quality. The hard work is certainly reflected throughout the scope of the build.
