Now 12 months into construction at Cardiff’s historic 120-year-old City Hall, CMB is pleased to have made significant progress across all deliverables within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) package.

The comprehensive M&E upgrade is focused on modernising the building’s infrastructure while carefully preserving its unique heritage. Working within such an iconic and historic building presents a number of challenges, making this a particularly demanding yet rewarding project for our team.

Over the past six months, we have successfully completed Phase 1 of the project. Key milestones include:

  • Installation and commissioning of Air Source Heat Pumps and associated plant.

  • Completion and commissioning of the Air Handling Units.

  • Final flushing, balancing and commissioning of the Phase 1 Low Temperature Hot Water (LTHW) system.

  • Integration and commissioning of the Building Management System (BMS).

With Phase 1 now successfully completed, Phase 2 is well underway, with the installation of additional plant progressing to supplement and build upon the Phase 1 systems.

We look forward to continuing our work on this landmark project and seeing the next stage of the City Hall’s transformation take shape.

As a Cardiff-based business, it is particularly rewarding to play a part in the future of such an important city landmark. It is a project that not only showcases the expertise of everyone involved, but also carries real significance for Cardiff and the wider community.
