Cardiff and Vale College (CAVC) have developed a landmark £45m state-of-the-art new campus for the capital of Wales. The building on Canal Parade, in the heart of Cardiff city centre.

This new development will provide an inspirational learning facility for individuals, communities and employers across the region. It will also be a valuable and exciting new space for the local community and employers in the area.

The College pledges to work with the community to ensure the new campus complements existing facilities and provides much needed spaces and services. Following an extensive consultation period which involved staff, students, members of the public and the local community, work started in summer 2013.

CMB started on site in April 2014 and we worked in conjunction with Evans electrical to supply the M&E package. The main contractor was Wilmott Dixon, There was a very tight programme for the project and after a great team effort from our workforce and sub-contractors delivered a quality product on time. The project consisted of a spa area, hairdressing and beauty salons, laboratories and many different types of classrooms for Education, Music and ICT.

The building has an immense central glass atrium that is the focal point of the building. We provided heating, cooling, ventilation as well as life safety systems sprinklers systems, alarms, access controls. The whole building is controlled via a central building management system that was installed by CMB, from this the buildings temperature and air quality can be set and monitored, The whole of the buildings impressive sculptured roof is covered with solar panels and that is providing energy to the college and to the national grid to reduce energy bills.
