On Wednesday 26th July, CMB Engineering Managing Director and Founder, Steve Borley, was recognised by Cardiff Metropolitan University with an Honorary Fellowship Degree. Steve was awarded with this Fellowship for his contribution to construction and sports across Cardiff and Wales.
After setting up CMB Engineering Services with wife Christine in 1992 with only £250 in the bank, the business has now grown and developed into a company that has turned over £80+ Million in a single year and has been involved in some of the biggest construction projects in Cardiff and the South Wales region. CMB now proudly claims the title of the largest independently owned building services company in Wales.
With a strong passion for sport, alongside his 25 years’ service to Cardiff City Football Club, Steve has branched off into ventures such as Cardiff City House of Sport and grown that from a concept to the biggest sports facility provider in the city. House of Sport has grown from its original base in Leckwith housing HOS 1, 2 and 3 and has since added the upgraded sports facilities at Cardiff International Sports Campus, which was followed by the first women’s and girls’ football hub at of Ocean Way Sports Complex and finally the newly completed Llanrumney Sports Complex (which will soon become the new home to CCFC Academy and the Llanrumney Sports Trust). House of Sports ethos is to develop and grow sports participation for all including male, female and juniors across a range of indoor and outdoor facilities.
Steve commented on the Fellowship, saying: “Thank you to Cardiff Metropolitan for making yesterday a memorable day for myself and my family. I never thought when I left Llandaff Tech in 1979 that I would be coming back to receive an Honorary Fellowship for a passion that’s been with me since I could walk. I feel humbled today, but I also feel very proud and honoured to have received this award.”
On behalf of all at CMB, we would like to congratulate Steve on the well-deserved and fantastic achievement.
