At CMB Engineering, investing in future talent has always been more than a policy – it’s part of who we are. Apprenticeships have shaped our company from the very beginning, and today, many of our senior team members started their own journeys on the tools. That commitment to growth and opportunity remains at the heart of everything we do.
The Roberto Dattero Apprentice of the Year Award was created in memory of one of CMB’s longest serving and most respected employees, Rob Dattero, who sadly passed away in 2023. As Labour Manager, Rob dedicated countless hours to mentoring and supporting apprentices across the business, embodying the values of commitment, professionalism, and care that continue to shape CMB today.
Now in its second year, we are proud to announce and congratulate Harley Davies as the winner of the 2025 Roberto Dattero Apprentice of the Year Award. Harley has demonstrated exceptional dedication, progress, and enthusiasm throughout his first year with CMB, quickly becoming a valued member of the team and an outstanding representative of our apprenticeship programme.

The Apprentice of the Year is chosen through a comprehensive review process that includes quarterly apprentice assessments, trainer evaluations, supervisor appraisals, and peer feedback. Competition was strong once again this year, but Harley consistently impressed across all categories.
Jason Oliver, CMB Labour Manager, commented:
“Congratulations, Harley, on winning the Apprentice of the Year Award. You’ve achieved a lot in your first year with the company, and your hard work and dedication have truly paid off.
This award is a testament to your commitment and the effort you’ve put in over the past year. Congratulations again and may your success continue!”
Rob Borley, CMB Project Director, added:
“Congratulations to Harley as the recipient of this year’s Apprentice of the Year Award. A standout first year and a fantastic step forward in his career journey.
At CMB, all our apprentices deserve recognition for their hard work and commitment over the past year. Each one has the potential to succeed and play a significant role in the future of our business. Harley’s achievement is a testament to the strength of our apprenticeship programme and the bright future ahead for our team.”
CMB Managing Director, Steve Borley, added:
“It’s always inspiring to see our apprentices progressing and achieving great things within the company. Harley’s recognition as Apprentice of the Year is well deserved and reflects the hard work, attitude, and potential we see in him.
At CMB, our success has always come from the quality of our people — and Harley represents the next generation of that excellence. We’re incredibly proud of his progress and look forward to seeing how he continues to grow in his career. The fact that CMB Engineering has grown into a contractor of choice is down to investment in our people. We're the biggest services contractor in Wales, we’re Top 20 Contractors in the UK, and we work on some the biggest and most complex projects in the country. But we’re only as good as the people we employ and these achievements have been made possible because of the quality that we produce, and these apprentices are the next generation of that quality.”
The Roberto Dattero Apprentice of the Year Award continues to symbolise the spirit of mentorship, craftsmanship, and dedication that Rob championed throughout his time with CMB. His influence lives on through every apprentice who trains under this company.
Congratulations again Harley on this well-deserved achievement, and we look forward to seeing your continued growth and success within CMB.
