It is with great sadness to hear the news of Colin Spry, who sadly passed away on 23rd April 2020.
Colin (also known as Mr Dependable) was with CMB at the very start of the journey in 1992 as our Labour Supervisor and was an important part of the Company’s History, until taking retirement in 2005.
Always immaculately turned out each day he spent in the office, Colin was an absolute perfectionist who could turn his hand to anything and would never let a fellow colleague struggle through difficult times alone.
Colin was was key our apprentice programme and key founder of our train and retain programme which many of our Site Staff will have benefited from, eventually progressing onto more Senior Engineering Responsibilities.
Steve Borley; Group Managing Director shared some of his fond memories working with Colin.
When I was a 17 year old apprentice 45 years ago, he was the first person I met and he introduced me to the industry and I will never forget the support he gave me along my career and was a key part of the evolution of CMB Engineering.
He was totally loyal and Mr Dependable and respected by everyone. Many of our outside staff will remember him from Crown House as well as at CMB. Many of us will have favourite stories of Colin and I invite you to share them on our social media channels.
We kindly ask for everyone to please spend a moment and reflect on the sad news and remember him as the legend he was with fondness and spare a thought for his wife Maureen and daughters Amanda and Melanie. Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, we won’t be able to pay our respects at his funeral which I know would have been a big turnout, but sharing the post and providing your thoughts and stories will be a comfort to the family and greatly appreciated.
