We are incredibly proud to announce that on Friday evening, CMB Engineering / Borley Engineering Services Ltd was recognised at the 2025 Cardiff Business Awards, winning both the Overall Cardiff Business of the Year, and the Construction Business of the Year.

This achievement marks an important milestone for the company in what has been a particularly significant year. Being shortlisted as a leading organisation within our sector in the Welsh capital, and subsequently across all industries, before going on to receive these awards reflects the dedication and professionalism of our staff and supply chain throughout the past year.
The awards board described the Construction Business of the Year category as: “recognising Cardiff-based companies that have made a real impact in the construction and building services sector. The judges are looking for construction businesses that have achieved growth and strong financial performance through innovation, exceptional customer experience and are focused on future business success.”
To meet these criteria for the construction award and stand out amongst the competition is a great achievement for our company. But to go on and be voted overall Cardiff Business of the Year by the judges panel, truly topped the evening off.

Steve Borley, CMB/ BESL Group Managing Director, commented:
“We are honoured to have been recognised as Cardiff’s Construction Business of the Year, as we reach the one-year milestone on the Fairwater Community Campus – a project where we stepped in to act as Principal Contractor following the collapse of ISG under the banner of BESL.
We thank Cardiff Council for their confidence in appointing us during an interim period of adversity and uncertainty, with many in the project supply chain facing severe cash flow challenges, and in some cases, local companies even going under.
I believe the construction team and supply chain have repaid that faith by delivering the Wellbeing building on time and to an exceptional standard, while also bringing the main Cantonian School building close to completion and recovering the initial 7-week delay. We are pleased to have also been entrusted to complete the remaining elements of the project, including Woodlands and Riverbank next year.
This project has demonstrated that our collaborative approach is the way forward in the industry, with many companies and individuals involved stating this is the best atmosphere they have experienced on a construction project. Our “no-grief” approach to contracting continues to set us apart from the mainstream and lives up to our motto: “we are not like everybody else.”
Rob Borley, CMB Director, added:
"As a family business from Cardiff, we are proud to have won Contractor as well as the overall award at this year’s Cardiff Business Awards!
It is an honour and testament to our team's dedication and hard work. This recognition inspires us to continue striving for excellence in everything we do.”
A special thank you also to Cardiff Business Awards for selecting CMB / BESL as the recipients of these awards, and of course to our extensive workforce and staff for making all of this possible.
