On April 28th, we celebrated World Health & Safety @ Work Day at Fairwater Community Campus.

CMB/BESL staff, subcontractors, and safety suppliers joined us on site for a collaborative event focused on the importance of staying safe at work.

Justin Manley, from Titanium Talks, delivered a powerful presentation sharing a life-changing experience that stemmed from one wrong decision made at work. Hearing Justin’s personal story gave our team and partners on this project a deeper understanding of the real-life impact of workplace safety. A heartfelt thank you to Justin for sharing his moving story and for his continued efforts to improve safety in the workplace.

We’d also like to extend our thanks to the companies that took part in the event, including: UVEX, Insight Workplace Health, Barry Training Services, JSP, Rugbi Supplies, Milwaukee, MEP Hire, Human Focus, and Armorgard. It was brilliant for our site staff to see a selection of new equipment, PPE, and training services available to them.

A further special thank you to everyone who donated to our raffle which raised a brilliant £760 to help revamp the existing Fairwater Skate Park. This included: CMB Engineering, Evans Electrical, MEP Hire, Integrated Fencing, Seer Construction, Sphere Solutions, Involve Recruitment, Sam Drylining, Craftsman Flooring, BESL, Dudley’s Aluminium, Compco, Central Cladding, Greenhat Consulting and Milwaukee Merch.

David Williams, CMB HSE Director, commented on the event saying:

“Justin’s story is so impactful and I hope everyone listening took the message on board.

Whilst we all come to work to make money to pay the bills, what good is it if we are not there at the end of it? When working on site, the real job we have is to make sure we look after ourselves and our colleagues on site ensuring everyone gets home to their loved ones at the end of each day.

We all need a reminder at times and this event was a very good one to everyone present – priorities over short cuts need to be applied at all times.”

We hope this event left a lasting impression and inspires safer practices that will continue to be shared and implemented on every job site.
