In June of last year, our team on the Department for Works and Pensions site in Treforest handed over the project to satisfied clients. After 6 months of fit out works completed, the new central hub for DWP has since been occupied by its staff.
The four-story building went through an initial base build in which CMB worked alongside BECT and Evans Electrical to provide the main shell and cores for the building. We provided all mechanical and public health services which included: heating and chilled systems; fan coil units on the floor; radiators in the cores; centralised ventilation systems; foul extract system; domestic hot and cold water; and above ground drainage system.
During the base build phase, Treforest experienced very harsh rainfall which caused the floods back in February 2020. The ground floor of the building was impacted by the flooding and it was thanks to the efforts of all contractors on site that we managed to clean this up so quickly. Not only did we still meet the client’s handover deadline despite this setback, we also had the opportunity to help out the locals in the area who had experienced the floods.
The CAT B fit out consisted of the internal layout of the floor plate to include office spaces, quiet rooms and comms room – once this stage was completed, we altered the LTHW, CHW and ventilation systems to accommodate the layout and installed a new dedicated water system for the kitchen area. CMB also installed DX cooling systems to the 4 comms rooms.
Commissioning was completed in time for the handover of the building in April 2021, with all plant fully operational and the central hub ready to be occupied. The DWP project was a pleasure to be involved in and a big thank you goes to our CMB team for their hard work and resilience when working on the project.
