Overview

With funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Welsh Government, St Fagan’s National History Museum in Cardiff has started on a £25m makeover that will include both new build and refurbishment work.

The existing main building will be totally transformed during the project with the construction of new galleries, learning areas and visitor facilities that are due to be completed in 2017.

St Fagans was established as the first open-air museum in 1948 and is currently one of Wales’ most popular tourist attractions with over 600,000 visitors every year.

The redevelopment will create over a 1000 volunteering placements and offer educational visits for schools.
